England’s Leopold Hotel is on the market

The Leopold Hotel, located in Sheffield, England, has been put on the market by its owner of eight years. The Leopold Hotel is Sheffield’s only four star boutique hotel, and targets tourists as well as business travelers. While it is currently a boutique hotel, it welcomes the opportunity to be branded. The hotel has 89 bedrooms, including 14 suites, as well as a guest lounge, bar, conference facilities, and a fitness suite. It is located in Sheffield’s city center. The price is up to the negotiation of the buyer and seller.

Lone Star’s UK "Hotel Collection" On the Market

Private equity firm Lone Star, has put 10 of its UK “Hotel Collection” hotels on the market. Known as “Project Solstice” the 10 hotels have been put on the market for £130 million. In 2015 the ten hotels, with combined 1,433 rooms, had total revenues of £48 million. Project Solstice includes the Majestic Hotel; The Old Ship Hotel; The Redworth Hall Hotel (pictured); The Imperial Hotel; The Billesley Manor Hotel; The Imperial Hotel; The Shrigley Hall Hotel, Golf and Country Club; The Stirling Highland Hotel; The Aberdeen Altens Hotel; and Angel Hotel. Seven of the hotels are located in England, two are in Scotland and the tenth is in Wales. The Hotel Collection is comprised of three and four star hotels, and will maintain two of its properties. It is still unknown if properties can be purchased individually.

Miami Dolphins Owner Now Owns 50% of London Micro-Homes Developer

Stephen Ross, US billionaire, and owner of the Miami Dolphins football team, has entered the UK affordable housing market. Ross’s Related Companies group purchased 50% of Pocket Living at £25million. Pocket Living was founded 10 years ago and focuses on one-bedroom “micro” flats targeted at homebuyers who cannot afford market prices which are nine to ten times that of earnings, but are wealthier than “social” tenants. They make on average £39,000 a year, but Pocket Living offers 20% discount to buyers if they do not meet a certain income benchmark. Related Companies is predicted to make first profits in 2016-2017 with the goal of 500 homes in the annual pipeline

Ireland’s Clarion Hotel Sligo purchased for €13million

The Gresham Hotel is on the Market

The Gresham Hotel, a 200-year old hotel in central Dublin was put on the market at the end of February 2016, at a market price of €80 million. According to its seller, Ireland’s National Asset Management Agency (NAMA), the buyer would be able to continue operation under its current name, or reflag it. The 323 room hotel has been occupied by the likes of The Beatles and President Dwight D. Eisenhower. This sale is a part of Ireland’s recovery plan from the collapse of 2008.

London's Grosvenor House Sold to Qatar

The state of Qatar has purchased the Grosvenor House Hotel from the Sahara Group. The selling price was not released, but the profits are set to be used to help pay the bail of Sahara Group founder Subrata Roy who was arrested for allegedly illegally gathering $3.5 billion from small town investors and using it for other projects. Two others Sahara Group hotels are under transaction to a Russian Bank in order to free the group’s founder.

Its luxurious amenities and rural location in Cardigan, Ceredigion has allowed for yearly growth and potential for expansion.

London’s First Underground Hotel, Rejected

Criterion Capital’s plans to convert an underground parking garage into a Japanese style “pod” hotel have been denied. The hotel would have created 24 jobs, but been without windows, a restaurant, and a bar. The 166 room hotel was expected to be put in an area of London with “some of the worst air quality in Europe” and would have had a 3 night maximum. The hotel would have been four and five floors (50ft) below the block and targeted towards budget and business travelers. The local council said the hotel would not be “a zero-star rating… but probably minus five stars.”
